Good Friday - a love that multiplies

As I reflect on this sacred day - Jesus completing His mission on the Cross laying down His life for my sake, I also ponder over the various people throughout my life who have played a role in my salvation and spiritual growth. The countless people who have encouraged me in the Lord, who loved me in ways so profound all I can say is Jesus, who discipled me to where I am right now in this moment - a husband, a father, a grandfather and most of all a servant of Christ in Japan. I am reminded of the great lengths God has gone for me. Not only is his love good, his love is faithful, his love is everlasting and his love multiplies. Every person who has encouraged, served, loved and discipled me is impacting His people in Japan.

For those of you currently praying over our mission and ministry - we ask you to faithfully continue as we continue to sew into our community in Kagoshima and take new ground this year in Tokyo.

To our financial partners who have supported our family and our work - your sacrifice is known and your impact is great! You continue to enable our entire family to be the hands and feet of Jesus in Kagoshima and in other parts of Japan.

Brothers and sisters, we should always thank God for you. That is only right, because your faith is growing more and more. We also thank God that the love you all have for one another is increasing.
— 2 Thessalonians 1:3

Big News

We (part of us) are moving to Tokyo in late summer. Chloe was accepted into Christian Academy Japan, a Christian International School established originally for missionary families in 1950. We are excited for her as she will get to do live in a Christian environment and engage with other believers her age and be spiritually formed by her Christian teachers as well.

Chloe just graduated Elementary School 2 weeks ago and will spend her spring and summer studying English reading and writing to get her close to 7th grade level before she starts in August.

This is a huge transition for our family relationally and financially. Megumi and Chloe will live in Tokyo while Myself and Ethan will live in Kagoshima for the next two years. Then he will join Chloe at Christian Academy Japan. We are well aware of the concerns of being a part and we have prayed over it and have had conversations with those we are in spiritual mentorship with and we have consulted with other missionaries who have already walked this path. We are approaching this with much care, understanding and prayer.

In addition to our Missional Community in Tokyo, various doors are opening regarding ministry opportunities and potential partnering with other mission organizations where serve and continue with what we have started in Kagoshima.

Prayers as we look to secure housing close to the school and seek provision to support our move, Chloe’s schooling and the work God has for us in Tokyo!

Changes

As our children grow and change, so do the ministries we are engage in.

CASA, our after school program, came to a close at the end of March. Our children had a major influence in the fact it was a number of their friends they were connected to that made this ministry happen. This ministry outreach launched in 2021 introducing the love of Jesus to 70+ children day in and day out for 5 years and also exposed to their families to who God is and our need for Jesus through annual events we held. Even though this ministry has come to a close our relationships with these families have not. We will continue watering the seeds that have been planted.

As mentioned, Chloe’s Japanese formal education has come to a close and she will be switching to English formal education in a different city. One of the ways Chloe wants to maintain contact is through a Monthly Youth Night. Last gathering we introduced them to tacos and youth games they have never played as well as engaged them in deeper conversation to establish trust with us, the parents. As we know many of their parents as well.

Ethan went through a tough change leaving his current school community soccer club to join a new soccer club this month. Over the last couple of years we connected and built relationships with many of the parents. Thankfully we will still be connected because of school.

Both Chloe and Ethan have made such a huge impact on our ability to connect with people and grow deeper in relationship opening the doors to sharing the gospel.

USA Bound

It’s been 2 years since our last visit! We are excited to be visiting the southeast/midwest region from July 2 - August 12. We will visit with family in Louisville the first week. Our hope is to travel to various locations to in the southeast and midwest to provide mission updates and about how God is using us in Tokyo moving forward.

The last 2 weeks we will have 4 of our kids from Kagoshima join us for our Homestay Program. We are looking for one family for each boy to host them in their home. Think of it as a mission trip in reverse. Instead of you coming to Japan, we bring Japan to you! Reach out to us if you are interested or have questions.

Christ has died - Christ has risen - Christ will come again!

Happy Easter from our family to yours!
